Jesus is not the founder of a religion. There is no Christianity in the New Testament. Christianity arose gradually in the second and third centuries, beginning about 180 A.D., after all of the authors of the Bible had passed on. True religion, according to James in the New Testament, is “to visit orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted from the world system.” According to Jesus, “therefore, whatever you want people to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” That is, the goal of God’s work on earth.
